When you offer outstanding customer service, you can qualify as a Top Rated seller on eBay and receive exclusive benefits. To obtain the status, you’ll need to meet sales and tracking requirements along with sales and shipment performance standards.
Benefits of the Top Rated Program
On all your listings offering same-day or one-business-day handling, you will receive a Top Rated seal. You will also receive a 20 percent discount on final value fees — just for the price of the item, not for shipping charges.
How to Become Top Rated
Sales and tracking
Only sellers who have been active on eBay for at least 90 days can become Top Rated. In addition, you must have completed a minimum of 100 sales within the last 12 months, totaling at least $1,000. Furthermore, you will need to show you met promised handling times for at least 90 percent of transactions over the last three months by uploading valid shipment tracking. These requirements only relate to sales with US buyers.
The first performance standard is defect rate, which refers to sales through PayPal Protection and eBay Money Back Guarantee that were closed without seller resolution and sales where the seller initiated the cancellation. These should make up no more than 0.5 percent of your transactions in your most recent evaluation period. Plus, no more than 0.3 percent of PayPal Protection and eBay Money Back Guarantee cases should have been closed without seller resolution. Finally, less than 3 percent of transactions may suffer from late shipping.
Motor vehicles Top Seller
To become a Top Seller in the motor vehicles category, you only need 40 sales in the last 12 months, but you must receive no more than two 1- or 2-star ratings and any you do have must make up no more than 1 percent of your total ratings. There are also requirements as to how many transactions resulting in Vehicle Purchase Protection claims you may have.
Since May 1 this year, eBay expanded its criteria for Top Rated status. You now also need to offer, at a minimum, a 30-day money-back return policy (an increase from a minimum of 14 days). To gain (or maintain) your status, go to your seller dashboard and check if any of your current listings need updating for you to qualify.
